Community and Student Organisations

Community rooted organisations are as diverse in their aims, outlook, size and structure as the communities and people they represent. There is however a unifying thread: the ability to bring people together around a common purpose. In many ways this is not dissimilar to Muslim Hands where both our staff and donors come from all sections of society, yet are brought together by the shared desire to assist the poor and needy.

We feel our vision of a world free of poverty, and recognising our role in achieving this is shared not only by individuals but organisations also. With this in mind, Muslim Hands works closely with various organisations in joint awareness and fundraising activities. We want to work with you also!

Why Muslim Hands?

We are a well known, well respected and long established international NGO at the forefront in serving the UK Muslim community. We work in many countries worldwide and on a wide range of issues, so if there is a particular area of work you'd like to support we can find an idea or project to suit you. There are a number of other less obvious benefits to your organisation:

  • Charity projects and work provide an excellent way to get people actively involved in an organisation, on board with the ideas behind it and engaged with others. This has been our overwhelming experience over the years.

  • Charity, perhaps uniquely, appeals universally and equally to all, irrespective of their background, interests, etc. Moreover, working towards a common goal, such as fundraising in response to an appeal, builds a special sense of unity and teamwork.

  • Charity-related work provides a positive example to the wider community and provides an opportunity for engagement with people outside your organisation.

  • Projects can be tailored to your needs, especially as part of the It's My Project scheme. Ownership of the project remains with you and is advertised as such, with MH simply acting as the executor.

  • There is a huge potential to bring benefit to those who are less fortunate, with only a limited effort required. Moreover, both from an individual and organisational perspective, there is nothing to describe the sense of satisfaction in having helped and shared in the reward of doing so, insha'Allah.

Students: Work With Us!

It may not seem like it, but your time as a student -- whether at school, college or university -- is most likely when you'll have the time and opportunities to explore your interests and spend your time in ways you enjoy. Indeed, it was by students utilising their time and energy to help others that Muslim Hands came into existence. Our current staff and volunteer base continue to share this will, and the determination to make it a reality.

No Experience Required, Just Enthusiasm

If you want to join us in our war on poverty and share our hope to help improve the lives of others then you've everything you need to get started! If you have your own ideas on ways to help we'd love to hear them; if you're feeling a little daunted, we can supply lots of information on what we've done and what's worked in the past, ranging from the small scale to the, erm, ambitious.

Be a leader! If your university or college has a Students' Union society you're a part of why not get them to organise an event with MH, or do something charity-related at another event being organised? It's not as daunting as it seems and we've had lots of successful partnerships with societies in the past.

People will often tell you that you can't change the world. Possibly that's true, possibly it isn't. What we can do for certain is help people just like ourselves. Then maybe, just maybe, with enough of us onboard we can bring the sea of change that removes the unjust inequalities that exist and truly make poverty history.
