Entering into Phase II:
An overview
As the immediate needs of survivors are being met, MH looks into the care of flood victims in this fragile interim period. MH Pakistan has reached 747,780 people in aid distribution. Our main priority in the initial stages of this disaster relief effort was focused predominately on food distribution.
We have provided 33,432 food parcels across the country which includes flour, sugar, rice, tea and pulses for a family of 7 for roughly two weeks. As many of the affected had lost every household item they owned, MH Pakistan also established cooked food distribution points across the country, with which we have fed 361,449 people, this had become increasingly important in the fasting month of Ramadan.
Muslim Hands has also set up numerous medical camps both static and mobile across the country, in which Muslim Hand doctors have been able to see 114,419 patients. Many of our patients- especially the children- have been treated for acute malnutrition and diarrhoea. More alarming and recently however there has been an increase in patients facing mental depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
MH Pakistan have also provided Nutritional Food, Hygiene Kits, Drinking Water, and Assorted Non-Food Items (NFIs) such as stoves, shoes, playing equipment, Kitchen kits, Beddings, Jerry Cans and Plastic Sheets.
The main four provinces that Muslim Hands has provided flood relief in KPK, Punjab, Baluchistan and Sindh. We have also provided some relief aid to the areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and FATA.

Looking ahead
Over the next few months MH Pakistan will prioritise providing shelter. The winter months are on their way and in the north, they are predicted to come especially early this year.
For the millions of people that have had their homes destroyed, a permanent shelter over the winter months is imperative. MH will therefore prioritise the building of sustainable long term shelters. Also as the second stage of this relief work starts MH will also focus on livelihood rebuilding.
Many of the affectees have lost everything including all their potential for earning a livelihood since agricultural land and animals have been completely washed away. Over the next few months, MH will endeavour to provide these people the necessary support to help them rebuild their lives and allow them to start earning an independent and sustainable livelihood once again insha'Allah.
